At a time when the value and protection of data, strategic assets, is more important than ever, Orange Business and Dawex are strengthening their collaboration to support the creation of secure, trusted data spaces. The rise of Artificial Intelligence, which requires reliable sources, accentuates this trend, particularly in sensitive sectors such as the media, industry, energy, space, aeronautics, and construction, among others. This dynamic is accompanied by an acceleration in trust-building initiatives, supported by regulations such as the European Data Governance Act, the Data Act and the AI Act, and sector-specific regulations and directives such as EHDS and CRSD. Data spaces and data exchange are now considered essential by organizations and institutions to strengthen industrial competitiveness and supply chain resilience, leading to an acceleration of initiatives to create data ecosystems on a global scale.
How do Dawex and Orange Business fit into this dynamic?
"At Orange, trust is a fundamental pillar of our identity. As a European player, operator, and integrator, we are firmly committed to developing reliable data infrastructure, as evidenced by our role as a founding member of GAIA-X and the Data Intermediation Association (AID). Our value proposition is based on a responsible and secure approach to data, seamlessly integrating cloud, cybersecurity, and connectivity, while also including digital identity solutions, such as our Live Identity Wallet. To enhance this offering, we rely on an ecosystem of partners. Dawex, at the forefront of innovation in data exchange solutions, brings its technological expertise to support the development of data spaces in various sectors, including media. Innovation plays a key role in this approach, and we also benefit from the expertise of Orange Innovation, where our researchers design solutions tailored to the growing data needs of businesses, particularly in the field of artificial intelligence."
Nassima Auvray, Chief Trust Officer at Orange Business Services
"For the past 10 years, Dawex has been promoting trusted Data Exchange and supporting its customers in the creation of secure, sovereign and regulatory-compliant data spaces. Trust is at the heart of data ecosystems, and establishing trust between ecosystem participants remains essential for organizations that embrace this dynamic. Dawex has built a solid reputation thanks to its Data Exchange solutions, which provide a rich set of capabilities to organizations engaging in a Data Exchange strategy. We're seeing strong momentum on the market around Data Exchange, and this at all levels. International organizations such as the World Economic Forum, the OECD and the United Nations have programs dedicated to Data Exchange, notably around AI and climate change impacts. As part of its data strategy, the European Commission is carrying out comprehensive works to regulate data exchanges. By the way, Dawex is highly involved in the missions driven by these institutions. The works conducted are aimed at structuring Data Exchange, in light with what Gaia-X is doing, to encourage the creation of secure, trusted and interoperable data spaces. Standardization initiatives are also tackling the subject, notably with the pre-standardization program initiated by Dawex, Fraunhofer and TNO, on “Trusted Data Transaction”, with the European Center for Standardization-CEN, to define the criteria for a trusted data transaction, and how this is measured.”
Fabrice Tocco, Co-CEO at Dawex
Why is it essential to place trust at the heart of organizations?
Fabrice Tocco : Today, the exchange of data is on the agenda of executive committees to improve competitiveness, market efficiency and value chain resilience. Data is at the service of innovation, in all sectors, stimulated by its circulation both internally and externally. Trust is an essential component of data exchange, and this at several levels: trust in the source of the data, in the data acquirer and/or user, in the agreements made between parties concerning the use of this data, and in the Data Exchange infrastructure that operates the data exchange. Today, technologies are developing and standards are emerging to bring this level of trust in data exchanges, relying on regulations, reference architectures and standards such as “Trusted Data Transaction”. Creating trust in data ecosystems is essential. As a matter of fact, the European Commission has positioned the future Trusted Data Transaction standardization as one of the pillars of its European Trusted Data Framework.
Nassima Auvray : Placing trust at the heart of organizations is more crucial than ever, as we can see from a topical issue: the proliferation of deep fakes fuelled by generative artificial intelligence. Such misleading content poses considerable risks for companies, particularly in terms of their reputation, with potentially devastating legal and financial repercussions. In the face of these threats, digital trust is more essential than ever. In particular, it relies on various authentication mechanisms. These mechanisms are a subset of the pillars of digital trust, namely: resilience, reliability, security, regulatory compliance, data sovereignty and the ethical use of technologies such as AI. By embedding trust in their culture and practices, organizations can not only strengthen their relationships with customers and partners, but also drive innovation and foster sustainable growth.
You have just strengthened your collaboration with the signing of an MoU. How does your value proposition support digital trust?
Nassima Auvray : For us, relying on a network of partners is fundamental to effectively meeting the varied needs of our customers. Innovation is at the heart of this approach, enabling us to satisfy their technical and functional requirements while enriching our portfolio. In a context where the regionalization of sovereignty is becoming increasingly important, establishing regional partnerships is becoming essential to help our customers develop their activities while considering geopolitical, legal and institutional issues. Dawex, our partner for the past five years, perfectly embodies this collaborative approach. We intend to build on this partnership, which has gone beyond mere commercial and technical collaboration, with the recent signing of an MoU that strengthens our cooperation for trusted data enhancement. This partnership also includes shared governance, ensuring optimum synergy in the service of our customers.
Fabrice Tocco : Dawex core business is providing trusted Data Exchange solutions. Dawex has been collaborating with Orange Business for several years now, and our technologies are already powering several data spaces in key sectors of the economy. Dawex and Orange Business share the same vision, that of bringing trust; Dawex through its Data Exchange solutions such as Corporate Data Hub, Industry Data Space and Data Marketplace, and Orange Business with its cloud solutions and its Live ID wallet decentralized identity management technology. Our technological solutions are highly complementary, and our collaboration provides a turnkey solution to organizations orchestrating secure and trusted data ecosystems.
Can you share examples of projects where you collaborate using your respective technologies?
Today, several data spaces are already relying on Dawex and Orange Business technologies, while exploring other promising projects. For example, TEMS, the European Media Data Space. TEMS aims to strengthen the competitiveness of European media and build trust in digital environments. By facilitating the secure sharing of data, it encourages innovation in content creation, public engagement and ethical advertising practices, while guaranteeing transparent management and respect for privacy. With a decentralized infrastructure, media companies can choose where to store their data, ensuring security and confidentiality. TEMS sets clear standards for the use of AI, ensuring accountability and transparency. Dawex provides its Data Exchange solution to enable the flow of data across the entire ecosystem of Europe's leading media and cultural organizations. Orange Business provides its Live Identity Wallet solution for identity management and the expertise of Orange Business' Artificial Intelligence specialists.
